Zi-Wu Clash (子午冲) — The Fiery Water Battle
What Is the Zi-Wu Clash?
The Zi-Wu Clash is one of the Six Clashes (六冲) in BaZi, referring to the direct opposition between Zi (Water) and Wu (Fire). Zi represents the north and the Water element, while Wu represents the south and the Fire element. Their opposing directions and conflicting elements create the most intense Water-Fire battle pattern.
The Six Clashes include: Zi-Wu, Chou-Wei, Yin-Shen, Mao-You, Chen-Xu, and Si-Hai. Among them, the Zi-Wu Clash is considered one of the most powerful due to the polar opposition of Water and Fire.
Effects of the Zi-Wu Clash
Health
In the Five Elements system of Traditional Chinese Medicine:
- Wu (Fire) governs the heart, small intestine, and blood circulation
- Zi (Water) governs the kidneys, bladder, and urinary system
- The Zi-Wu Clash indicates disharmony between heart and kidneys, potentially leading to cardiovascular issues, insomnia, and kidney deficiency
Career
- Indicates frequent changes and instability
- May involve travel between north and south, or relocation
- Sudden disruptions at work are common
Relationships
- When the Clash occurs between the Day Branch and Hour Branch, it may affect marriage
- Emotional volatility and impulsive behavior are likely
Different Positions of the Zi-Wu Clash
- Year Branch Zi vs. Month Branch Wu: Conflict between family environment and career direction
- Day Branch Zi vs. Hour Branch Wu: Conflict between self and children or later life, with greatest health risks
- Original Chart Zi-Wu Clash + Annual Cycle (流年) Wu: Doubled impact, marking a high-risk year
How to Resolve
Use the Generating Cycle (相生) with Wood (Yin or Mao) as a mediator: Water nourishes Wood, Wood fuels Fire, easing the direct Water-Fire clash. In daily life, those with a Zi-Wu Clash should pay extra attention to cardiovascular health, schedule regular check-ups, and avoid overexertion.
