About the Almanac · ABOUT
What is the almanac? The wisdom of choosing the right day
The almanac (huangli, or farmer's almanac) is a date-selection tool calculated from the traditional almanac and the Heavenly Stems & Earthly Branches calendar. For each day it lists auspicious and inauspicious activities, auspicious hours, clashes & sha, and the directions of the Gods of Wealth, Joy, and Blessing. It doesn't foretell a fixed fate—it helps you read the timing and momentum of the day so you can arrange your important matters in harmony with it.
Understanding the Almanac · HOW TO READ
Four keys to reading any day
宜
Auspicious · Avoid
"Auspicious" lists what's favorable to do on a given day, while "Avoid" marks what to steer clear of—the traditional almanac gives a verdict on over a hundred daily activities.
吉
Auspicious Hours
Each of the day's twelve double-hours falls on either a yellow (auspicious) or black (inauspicious) path; handling important matters during auspicious hours goes more smoothly, and you can pick a specific hour to time things even more precisely.
冲
Clash & Sha
Each day's Earthly Branch clashes with one zodiac sign; those clashed with should keep still rather than act that day, while the "sha" direction marks the day's unfavorable bearing.
位
Auspicious Deity Directions
The Gods of Wealth, Joy, and Blessing each have their own direction; facing the corresponding auspicious bearing when traveling, negotiating, or seeking fortune lends you greater favor.

Almanac & Farmer's Almanac FAQ
An AI almanac (AI huangli) builds a conversational AI assistant on top of the traditional daily auspicious-and-inauspicious listings. The AI almanac assistant on the right side of every ShunShi page explains the day's auspicious and inauspicious activities, clashes & sha, and auspicious hours in plain language. It can also answer specific questions like "Is today good for moving or signing a contract?"—and you can ask follow-ups. Being easy to understand and open to questions is what sets an AI almanac apart from an ordinary almanac.
"Auspicious" lists what's favorable to do on the day, while "Avoid" marks what to steer clear of—the traditional almanac gives a daily verdict on over a hundred activities such as weddings, breaking ground, travel, and burials. Start by reading the auspicious-and-inauspicious listings: if what you plan to do falls under "Auspicious," it bodes well; if it falls under "Avoid," consider rescheduling.
"Clash" refers to the zodiac sign that clashes with the day's Earthly Branch; those clashed with should keep still rather than act that day. "Sha" is the day's unfavorable direction. For example, "Clash Horse, Sha South" means people born in the Year of the Horse have a less smooth day, and south is the unfavorable bearing. Clash & sha is simply a reminder to sidestep the worst of it—there's no need to overworry.
The ancients divided days into yellow-path (auspicious) and black-path (inauspicious) days. When one of the six great auspicious deities—Green Dragon, Bright Hall, Golden Coffer, Heavenly Virtue, Jade Hall, or Director of Destiny—presides over the day, everything is favorable; this is called an "auspicious day" (huangdao jiri). When an inauspicious spirit presides, it is a black-path day. Auspicious days are well suited for important matters, though the final call should still factor in the day's specific auspicious-and-inauspicious listings and what you intend to do.
Yes. That's exactly what the AI almanac assistant on the right side of ShunShi is for—just ask it about terms like the presiding deity, Nayin, the 28 Lunar Mansions, or the Hundred Taboos of Pengzu, and it'll explain them in plain language, so you no longer have to dig through a pile of glossary entries.
First be clear about what you're planning (wedding, moving in, opening a business…), then look for days whose "Auspicious" list includes that activity, that don't clash with your zodiac sign, and that steer clear of the sha direction. When you're unsure, just ask ShunShi's AI assistant whether a given day is good for that task and what to avoid—saving yourself the trouble of cross-checking it all by hand.
The almanac's auspicious-and-inauspicious listings come from a general almanac and are for date-selection reference only. For important decisions, please weigh them together with your own Bazi chart and personal circumstances.
