Half Meeting (半会): Partial Convergence of the Directional Triad
What is a Half Meeting?
In the Earthly Branches, there are four Directional Triads (三会方):
- Yin (寅), Mao (卯), Chen (辰) — Converge into Wood of the East
- Si (巳), Wu (午), Wei (未) — Converge into Fire of the South
- Shen (申), You (酉), Xu (戌) — Converge into Metal of the West
- Hai (亥), Zi (子), Chou (丑) — Converge into Water of the North
Each triad represents the gathering of energy from the same direction and season. When only two of the three branches are present, it forms a Half Meeting (半会). The shared resonance remains, but the power is weaker than when all three are present.
How Half Meetings Appear in Chart Comparisons
When two people's birth charts share a Half Meeting between their Earthly Branches, it indicates:
- Similar energy fields and rhythms — they naturally align in pace and direction.
- Ease of connection — they find each other relatable and compatible.
- A positively tuned synchronization — the bond is harmonious, though not as intense as a full Directional Triad.
In relationship or partnership analysis, a Half Meeting suggests a supportive, flowing dynamic — like two instruments playing in the same key, even if the full orchestra isn't present.
